 Jumble Sale return to top

A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped with the Jumble Sale.

Thanks also to all of you who donated goods for sale.

We raised over £500 which will go towards the cost of this year's Summer Fair.

 Top of the Hill Quiz

Make a note: the ever-popular Top of the Hill Quiz will take place at the Centre on Friday 16th May (7.30pm for an 8.00pm start).

This is the night when the streets, roads and avenues of Primrose Hill lock horns in an eclectic mix of questions including current affairs, music and trivia.

It's a lot of fun so please get a team together and let Mick or Margaret know on (020) 7586 8327.

Individuals are welcome, we'll fit you into a team.

Entry is £5.00 a head which includes a glass of wine or a soft drink.

 Keyholder Vacancy

We have a vacancy for a keyholder at the Centre for someone living nearby.

The duties include opening and locking up the Centre mainly evenings and at weekends.

The post should suit an active pensioner; for more information including rates of pay, please contact Mick or Margaret on (020) 7586 8327.

 Summer Fair 2008

This year's Summer Fair is on Saturday 7th June between 2.00 – 5.00pm in Chalcot Square.

Those of you who have helped in the past will know how much organisation and work is involved.

As always we are looking for volunteers who can help out both on the day and the weeks leading up to it.

This could mean running a sideshow or stall; collecting donations or putting up bunting.

If you would like to help, please telephone the Centre or e-mail us from here.

We will pass your details to Airdrie who is this year's volunteers co-ordinator.

 Wanted...

... an unwanted birthday or Christmas present for the gift stall.

A bottle of anything from shampoo to champagne for the Bottle Tombola; pottery, ornaments, china, or kitchenware for bric-a-brac; jewellery, books, CDs, DVDs or videos and toys and games for the stalls at the Summer Fair.

They may be just what someone else would love to have.

Please bring your offerings to the Centre any time and we will be glad to take them off your hands.

 Dancing

We will be starting our taster dance classes in May.

They will be held on Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.

The first 4-week taster class is Salsa on Weds 14th, 21st and 28th May and 4th June.

The second taster will be Ballroom/Latin which will follow on Weds 11th, 18th and 25th June and 2nd July.

Cost will be £3 for members, £5 non-members — all ages are welcome.

We are in the process of setting up further taster styles of dancing, and whichever style proves to be most popular will become a regular activity.

Keep an eye on our Activities page for further details.

 Bicycle Loan Scheme

Summer is almost here and what could be better than cycling around London's places of interest.

We have a range of adult bicycles with all accessories and even cycle route maps.

Members can borrow the cycles free of charge from the Community Centre.

For more information call Mick on (020) 7586 8327.

 National Year of Reading

To mark the National Year of Reading the Chalk Farm Library in Sharpleshall Street has arranged a series of informal talks.

These will take place on the first Monday of every month (except May) at 6.30pm.

The topic on 2nd June will be "Victorian Travel Writing", which sounds very promising.

 Tai Chi for Older People

This class is for anyone 50 or over and runs every Wednesday at the Centre from 12.15 to 1pm.

Liz, who takes the class, is a very experienced tutor, and if Tai Chi is new to you, then she will ease you in gradually.

The cost is £1.00.

 Mags Robinson

Sadly, Mags Robinson, a long time member, volunteer and former key holder at the Centre passed away last month.

Mags always helped at and supported the Community Centre's events and activities.

She ran the bingo session at the Centre for many years and in her later life, could be seen zipping into Hopkinsons' Place on her mobility scooter.

She will be missed by her many friends at the Centre.

 Defibrillator

We have now purchased a defibrillator, which is kept on the mezzanine floor of the Centre.

This was bought using the donations given to the Centre by film companies filming in the area.

The PHCA committee saw this as a good use of the money, which could save someone's life.

The beauty of this particular machine is it's ease of use; it talks you through the procedure and most importantly the defibrillator detects if it appropriate to shock or not to shock.

Mick will be going on a training course soon and will pass his knowledge on to other leaders at the Centre.

Anyone from the community wishing to find out more phone Mick on (020) 7586 8327.

Let's hope it never gets used!

 Local Area Forum

A Local Area Forum will take place on Thursday 19th June at Primrose Hill Community Centre and it is a chance to meet your local ward councillors to discuss concerns and issues you may have within the community.

From 6.30 to 7.00pm there will be refreshments and the opportunity to chat informally with your ward councillors, with the meeting itself taking place from 7.00 to 9.00pm.

The meeting will be chaired by Cllr Libby Campbell, accompanied by Cllr Pat Callaghan and Cllr Chris Naylor.

The meeting will focus on identity, conservation and the environment; that is, our environment, (Camden Town with Primrose Hill), and our sense of community.

This includes looking at the built environment and how the Council can shape and change it and how the residents can feed into and influence the process and change.

All are welcome.

 King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery

The King's Troop RHA will be conducting its annual Administrative Inspections on 25th April and 1st May 2008.

These parades have recently been occurring in Primrose Hill, having traditionally been held on Cumberland Green within Regent's Park.

This year the parades will return to Regent's Park and be held on Gloucester Green at 11am.

The parade will be the King's Troop Musical Drive followed by an Advance in Review Order.

This will involve driving the 13-pounder ceremonial artillery pieces around the park with horses.

  New Hampstead Heath Health Walk

This health walk is designed for those that aren't used to exercising or haven't been active in a while.

Walking has many health benefits and can quickly increase your fitness and walking in a group is a great way to meet new friends.

The walks are every Monday from 10am to 11am and the meeting place is outside William Ellis School, Highgate Road, NW5 1RN, (buses 214, C2, C11).

All are welcome - whatever your age or fitness.

The walks are free, no need to book, just turn up 5 minutes before the start and remember to wear comfortable shoes.

 Attention all Authors

The Primrose Hill Summer Fair attracts all sorts of people so with this in mind we try and put on something for everyone.

We are offering free stall space to any authors in the area wishing to promote their wares, including Dr Kevin Bucknall, author of several books including his latest 'Going to University: the Secrets of Success'.

Call Mick on 020 7586 8327 to book a space.
